Join us for an introduction to the fiber arts technique of needle felting! While wet felting has been done since Neolithic times, in this class we will be learning about a technique that began in the mid 1800s. Needle felting is a dry technique that uses wool and specially designed “barbed” needles to sculpt or embellish fiber objects. Students will enjoy crafting functional, decorative and whimsical projects in class and have tools to take with them at the end of our 6 weeks together to keep learning and creating at home.
Note: Felting needles are inherently sharp. While we will use all proper safety precautions, please make certain your student has the manual dexterity and maturity to handle these fiber arts tools.
2nd Hour (10:35-11:30) - Room 4 & 5
Class Fee $95
If you loved our Sabre Fencing classes, please join me again for our very own “Salle D’Armes” as we further explore the fascinating world of Swordplay 101!! In this class you will be introduced to Longsword (and other HEMA forms), Stage Combat, Sword Yoga, Flankyrovka (rhythmic sword spinning), a brief History of Swords, and more. Since my personal focus is in Sabre Fencing we will invite “armed specialists” to visit and share their own areas of expertise. As in our prior Sabre classes we will continue applying our core values of honor, balance, integrity, discipline, and respect.
DISCLAIMER: As in our Sabre Fencing class, foam “blades” and other training weapons will be used in this class so no special equipment is required – with the exception of:
1) Lightweight, appropriate shoes like sneakers that provide stability (no crocs, sandals, or heavy boots)
2) Stretchy, comfortable pants (no jeans)
REQUIRED PREREQUISITE: Completing Sabre Fencing - Fundamentals (all previous semesters are applicable).
3rd Hour (11:40-12:35) - Room 3
Class Fee $85
Join us for this hands-on class as we become scribes and learn to read and write the "basics" of the secret language of the pharaohs! Scribes were highly respected members of ancient Egyptian society. Together we’ll decipher this 5,000 year old picture language, write a cartouche of our own names on real papyrus, and gain fascinating insight into the mysterious world of the Nile and ancient Egyptians.
NOTE: All materials included.
